Pray Up Then Step Up

"Find me one person who is for something and against nothing, who is redeemed enough not to condemn others out of the burden of his soul, and I will find another savior, another Jesus, and an exalted human being." ~Ernest Holmes, Sermon by the Sea

"I am participating in the evolution of inspired action." ~Steve Maraboli

So, here's a funny thing about me. When I am called, when I truly and deeply feel the call of the Divine at work in my heart, I cry. You know this if you've ever seen me speak on prison ministry, youth spiritual education or the art of spiritual mentoring. These areas are mine to do in a deep and primal way. I feel it at the depths of my being, and it brings tears.

It's pretty convenient to have an obvious physical differentiation between Divine Inspiration and a really good idea. I never have to struggle with the question, "Am I really called to do this?" When God taps me on the shoulder and says, "This one's on you, kid," I know. On the flip side, I can't dodge it. I can't pretend I am unclear. I can't waffle. God calls, I march.

This week, God called. All of the sudden, in a rush of requisite tears, the Pray Up Then Step Up movement was born. I have been tasked with helping to call the spiritual devotees of the world to their own inspired action in support of the causes and organizations of their choice.

When the world looks chaotic and out of control, prayer is where we start. It's step one, but it is most certainly not the only step. We cannot afford to luxuriate in spiritual practice and then go on with our day. No, we are taught to "treat and move our feet". We pray, absolutely we pray, and then we DO SOMETHING.

It's time that we, as a movement, Pray Up Then Step Up. Do something real. Call your congressperson. Sign a petition. Hell, START a petition! Donate to the causes close to your heart. Share your love. Be the change you want to see in the world. What are YOU called to do? What moves your heart? Visit the Pray Up Then Step Up page for links and information on a few really great places to start.
