My goal is to make very complicated images and concepts feel simple and fresh. Painting in monochrome, specifically, has helped me learn self-restraint and concentration. It’s interesting to see how many different impressions I can evoke while limiting myself to a very narrow parameter (for example, a grid of blue squares), and I tend to find myself revisiting themes, trying to dig more out of them. Within those simple and limited compositions, I am free to unleash my own aesthetic ideas. I find that this brand of pseudo-minimalism allows me to focus all of my energy on that one element that contains the essence of my idea, while still keeping a fresh, modern feel.

Lezli Goodwin works primarily with acrylics in her career as a contemporary abstract painter. Goodwin studied art and design while pursuing degrees in education and psychology at Cornell College, and began painting professionally after moving to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1999. Her work has shown extensively throughout the US, and she is now pursuing international opportunities through her representatives at Perdurabo Art in the UK. Her unique abstract perspective and interest in monochrome work have attracted growing attention from galleries, writers and private collectors, and she is currently showing her work in Scottsdale, Washington DC and Denver. Goodwin lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband and two small children, where she paints maniacally and tries to attend the occasional yoga class.
